Medicare and the COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine

During the coronavirus public health emergency, your services related to the coronavirus can be covered when you seek care from a provider that accepts Original Medicare or is in-network with your Medicare Advantage Plan.

Testing for the coronavirus is covered under Medicare Part B. Your first test is covered without a doctor’s order. Additional tests do require a doctor’s order.

The COVID-19 vaccine is available, however, only for limited emergency use. It is available only for certain groups of people currently. You can speak with your doctor to learn if you are eligible.

Original Medicare Part B covers the vaccine. You will not have any cost-sharing whether you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan.
